Wistvale was a nice town. Or that's what Brunel felt at least. They had order and everybody seemed to care about something. But the town itself was not really what Brunel was used to.
He had been a wanderer most of his life and nothing was going to change at the moment. He was just about to leave the town. He felt an urgent need to get out. To find some place to relax, preferably a forest. The feeling of being alone in the forest was a part of him. Every Wood Elf he had met in his travels had the same feeling. An indefinable feeling of relaxation.
He left down the main road and walked on for a while. A small forested area, he wouldn't call it a forest, came up on the right hand. The feeling was already beginning to pump through his body. He turned off the road and into the 'forest'. He found a small clearing with a small pond. The air was dense, but at the same time fresh. It had been raining. He sat down and looked around for a couple of minutes. His eyes closed, as his head fell back into the soft and wet grass.

Kiko stuck her nose around one of the beech trees that grew in abundance here. She had seen the stranger enter the clearing and on a whim had followed him. She was as silent as only an animal can be in their environment, too.
The elf appeared to be sleeping, but as Kiko well knew; appearance could be deceiving. She was not visible at any rate, her fur blended in with the silvery bark of the beech trees perfectly. Her amber eyes remained on him, though; he might just be sleeping, he might be in quiet reverie, but he might be wearing a very good disguise.
She settled down in the shadows of the trees where she could watch him and the path that brought him in. Her paws were extended out past her chest, her nose came to rest on top of them, and her tail flagged up once then coiled about her haunches.
This was her place.
This was her home.
This was her world.
What remained was to see if this newcomer was friend or foe.

Brunels eyes opened and he slowly sat up. He was still sleepy and his eyes was only half opened. He looked around for a minute. He had been sleeping for an hour or two and the weather had changed. It was cloudy and the density of the air suggested rain. He got up and walked the few feet to the pond.
The water was clear and cold. He put his hands in and splashed some in his face. The cold water felt refreshing. He felt less sleepy and looked around once more. He felt the presence of something. It could be a deer or simply a fox, but could also be another humanoid. He didn't reach for his bow just yet.
He didn't know if this creature was either going to meet him peacefully or attack him, but he wouldn't do anything right now. He walked around the pond once more and looked at the forest around him, trying to spot the creature.

Kiko gave what might have been a laugh had she human form. Her mouth opened, her tongue fell out of the side of it, and her eyes gleamed. He was tense. She could see it in the reaction after he walked up to the pond. He knew something was here. Fair enough, there was always something around a water hole at this time of day.
The afternoon had slipped away and the cooler air encouraged the wildlife out of the trees and toward water. If he stood still long enough he might have watched the deer she caught on the wind. Who knows.
Either way, time enough for introductions. He'd done nothing that suggested enmity, only rested here. She stood up, stretched, shook the dust off her coat and then took a few strides into the clearing.

Brunel turned around. He saw Kiko enter the clearing and smiled. His brown hair covered half of his face as he stood in the winds. He already had a hand on his dagger, which was hidden beneath the rugged cloth.
"Hello." His voice was weathered and hoarse. He continued with authority in his voice. "What brings you to these woods?"
The winds blew stronger now and the air was even more dense. Small droplets of rain had started falling and it would seem like a shower was underway. Brunel felt the drops hitting the top of his head and covered it with his hood.

(She can't speak to you as the wolf. FYI!)
Kiko's eyes went to the hidden hand. That was never a good sign. Her muzzle wrinkled up and her head lowered between her shoulders. She uttered a growl at the Elf, her nose pointed directly at the cloth covering the dagger.
She had not gone any farther into the clearing, either. She was giving him a chance. Of course, she could not blame him for wanting the weapon. She had plenty of sharp teeth and claws.
The rain was spattering the ground, the dry earth soaking up the moisture as quickly as it fell. Kiko's gaze never wavered.

Welcome to The Menagerie. We are a free role playing game with less rules and more freedom. After many years, a couple of hosts and a few different game systems, we feel that less is more. Players get to be truly creative, which in turn leads to more enjoyment in game.
We invite you to join us in crafting our world and look forward to making friends. Should you have any questions, feel free to post in our chat box or ask any of our members or staff.
May you enjoy your stay.
It must be said that this game is the product of continued dedication and friendship.
Grayell: Game inventor and closet basement geek.

The Menagerie has enjoyed many incarnations, revamps, reimaginings and renovations and none of it would have been possible without the ongoing support of my friends, the players. Their unwavering loyalty and endless dedication to this project has been stellar.
I would like to thank all admin and staff past and present, in particular Tiberius.
I would like to thank friends and staff no longer with us, and to the few I hold most dear: John, Roland, Alex, Azriel and Jenkins.
