Grayell found her terribly adorable. The cutest thing. He couldn't help but smile the entire time, she truly was a delight. He patted her again and then looked about the market.

"Hm. Well you can't just buy some tentacles unless you want a pet squid. How about... we find you your very own, special thing? Then you can do something your Mom can't?

I think she'd be very proud of you."

Enda looked up at Grayell, her expression confused.

"So, I can't have tentacles, but... something else?"

Again, she pondered for a few moments, unsure of what else there was to have besides extra appendages. For a child that was technically living in utter poverty, she really didn't seem to want very much.

"Uuuh, like what kinda stuff? I don't really go shopping a lot... Oh! Oh! I know! How about... uh... um... I forgot."

Grayell looked at the merchant and pointed at a couple of things.

"Ok. The pants, another pair, two jerkins and a jacket. I will be back with the young lady, we're going to go see a certain shop keep...."

He slid her off the counter and, holding her hand gently began to walk down the length of the market.

"Well, when I was a boy I had a wooden sword and a bow. I loved those things but they were more than toys of course. But I hear that this one merchant, he has things especially made for children. Toys."

Enda seemed especially puzzled now, but she trotted alongside him, his longer strides forcing her to fall into an uneven rhythm of steps, almost like skipping, but abundantly less elegant. The idea of a shopkeeper that sold toys did seem interesting, but not altogether... sensible, to the little girl. Toys themselves were a sort of strange thing to her.

"So... what're we lookin' for, esactly? I've never been to a toy shop."

Grayell glanced at her with that same warm smile, then slowed his pace a little. They'd arrived and he opened the door to the toy store, all manner of children's play things all over the place.

"Well Enda. We are looking for whatever you decide you like. Just one thing. One special thing that will be yours to play with.

I hear yoyo's are all the rage right now."

Enda's reaction was, well, utter shock. So many things and such interesting shapes and the colors (oh sweet gods the colors), with all the sensory overload, it was hard for the little girl to focus on any one thing. Even Grayell's voice sounded far, far away to her as she gazed around the shop, eyes wandering from one and trinket to the next.

She wandered about in something of a daze, equal parts fascinated and overwhelmed. Things she'd seen before had purpose and meanings that were obvious, but these... Just looked like they were for fun.

Enda picked up a small object, marked by the sign as a 'yo-yo', examining it with cautious curiosity. Upon locating the small loop of string meant to be fit around the finger, she slowly unwound it from around the center of the toy, looking completely thrilled with the invention. Unfortunately the toy slipped from her hands, tumbling down and stopping just above the floor. With a whimper and a sniffle, Enda gathered up the undamaged (but very much un-wound) object, presenting it to Grayell.

"I... think I... -sniff- broke it."

Grayell frowned a little at the sad little face... then winked. He grabbed another yoyo and pinched the string, letting it fall til unwound.

"Now now, there's a trick to it. And only really clever people can do it. But first, you wind the string back up, just like this."

That done, he slipped it about his finger and waited for her to do the same.

"Now, the trick is to push it away from your hand, give it a good shove almost like you're throwing a stone. Then it will bounce back up and you will have to catch it.... like this."

Grayell showed her how to use the yoyo, just once.

"Ok. Now your turn."

Enda watched, fascinated by this toy's ability to seemingly defy the laws of nature. It had to be magic, but the item itself seem completely mundane. Eagerly she followed his instructions, winding it back up and slipping the loop onto a finger. With great care, she replicated his motions (albeit rather poorly), sending the yoyo down the string and halfway back up.

"Humph!"

Unwilling to be beaten by a small toy, she wound it back up again, this time sending the yoyo down with much greater force. The yoyo swiftly returned to the palm of her hand, leaving Enda to recoil in surprise.

"...Woah."

A single word to define her awe at such an object, she kept repeating the action, each time with more precision, purpose, grace. Soon she was keeping it at a constant rhythm, up-and-down, ad-infinitum.

Grayell chuckled then and watched her a while, enjoying immensely her amusement and wonderment at the toys returning to her hand. No doubt she'd be doing tricks with it in no time. It would likely give her mother some peace and quiet too, something every parent never felt like they had enough of.

"Alright kiddo. So, how about we pick up those clothes, grab you a pair of shoes and get some food in that belly of yours, hm? I think I'll buy another one too. For your mother. Then you two can learn to do tricks with them together."

Enda nodded, pocketing the toy. She would probably get several hundred hours of enjoyment out of the device, unless the string snapped first.

"M'kay! Iunno if mom'll like it, but I'm sure if it's from you she'll ap- apric... appreciate it."

She struggled with that last word, wincing as she endeavored to properly enunciate the verb.

"So... what kinda food we eatin'? Is it like fish? Or Crab?"

Grayell had paid for the toy and on their way, picked up the bundle of clothing for her and paid for that too. They were wandering in a new end of the market, her held on his shoulder once more. The many smells of varied foods filled the air here, smoke and sizzling, all sorts of strange edibles.

"This is a pretty recent addition to the Merchant Market Enda. They call it a 'food court'. It has just about.... well anything.

What would you like to eat?"

"Uuuuuuhh... Lemme see."

Enda took a deep breath through her nose, closing her eyes and letting the scents seep into her mind. After a few moments she jabbed a finger in a seemingly random direction, toward a stall which served particularly spicy curry and rice, with an array of other dishes as well.

"That one! It smells kinda weird, but that kinda stuff always tastes the bestest!"

"I agree."

He weaved his way through the throng of people at this time of day, everyone in Wistvale looking to have their lunch. The man at the stall waved them inside with a smile and cleared a seat for the pair of them, seeming quite eager to please.

"Well hello sir, tell me, who is this lovely lady? A princess no doubt? My my, what would such a beautiful girl be doing with a scoundrel like you...."

The man had a rather humorous accent and was smiling, which had Grayell smiling as well.

"Well Muigi, we're doing some shopping. And the princess here would very much like to eat something new. Something she has never had before."

Enda giggled as she bit the end of her sleeve, watching the strange man work furiously between his stove, over to his chopping block, back again to his stove. The aroma of mixed spices, cooked meats, and fresh peppers produced a fragrance unlike anything she had smelled before. Before very long, a plate of curry served with rice was passed across the counter toward Enda.

"And would there be anything for the princesses's guard? Maybe something with a little more... heat?"

Grayell shook his head and was looking at the plate in front of Enda with a smile.

"Nope, that looks delicious. I will have what the princess is having I think. Oh, and some juice please. Have to have something to wash it down."

Grayell smiled and looked back to Enda. It had been a long time since he'd had such a fun day or was amused so much. One little person had had him smiling all day long and it just felt... well good.

"Dig in miss, I'll catch up."
