Lily tilted the bodiless head toward her master. She paid little attention to the ones still groaning on the ground. If they talked, so be it. If they did not? Well, he would make sure that they never spoke again. She was not worried.
Lily bent down and placed the severed head at the ground beside his feet. She stepped up on it, too, with the limber grace of all premiere ballerinas. Oh, she could have reached him just by leaning up, certainly. But, it suited her fancy to stand on the head like she might on a stool, or other such thing during a private dance. She spun around leaving her hands up over her head and her wrists tightly pressed together.
It was his dance. The one he asked for earlier. And with the final curtain coming to a close, Lily gave him a glimpse of what might be in store when the rest of the lights went out. The head gave her enough height to drop her teeth to his neck and shoulder, one of her hands flung around the opposite side of his body.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”

Renquist hissed in sheer delight with the bite of flesh and he clutched her waist, almost cruelly as he gnashed his teeth, his other hand gripping her hair and holding her mouth to him. Yes. This he wanted, much more than anything presently and with that thought, these pitiful wretches had worn out their usefulness. He wanted them gone and wanted her alone.
He was a dangerous man when hurried. Capable of incredible grace even in the midst of terrible sadism, Renquist took to no pleasure in it when he was rushed. Then, he became so cruelly efficient that it was nothing short or gut wrenching horror, a terrible thing to witness.
His nails dragged down her neck and back, slipped between them and gripped upon the hilt of his sword. He turned, pulled his neck from her and stole a hungry, hard kiss.
"Your dance gives me pause my pet. Now... won't you allow me to finish them?"
Oh he would. And she would let him, want him to. But never let it be said that he abused his sway upon her.

Lily gave a muffled cry when she was crushed against his body. Was that sound full of pain? Oh, no. His hands gripped her hair and waist viciously tight, but cry was full of pleasure. What pain mattered when she could taste his blood on her lips.
The thoughts in Renquist's head pounded through her mind. Lily knew the nails were coming down before they ever touched her and she wanted more. His hand could be on her every single night and she would still want more. Her spine bowed out, her head was flung back, and blood was still smeared across her mouth when he pulled her free.
His hand was on the sword. A tiny sliver of glee ran up Lily's spine and rewrote the nerves and sensations inside. He was stepping on the stage. She had walked through hell to see him dance on another moonlit night. She would not refuse him this one.
She stepped back down. First one foot came off the head, then the other landed beside it with perfect precision. Lily made a half turn then knelt beside the right foot of her Cavalier. Her eyes were on the men, who had yet to scramble to their feet, her arms were on either side of her body, and her fingers spread wide apart to keep her palms off the earth.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”

Renquist looked down upon her with a slight smile, but his eyes wee filled with wonder and excitement. His hand left his sword and settled atop her head, fingers tussling her hair gently. He simply watched her for a short moment, struck with an unending awe for her incredible beauty.
He swallowed and smacked his lip as he looked about.
"Get up you dogs. You'll not run, you'll not be so cowardly. Both of you will earn the right to live. You will see me dead, or you shall die yourselves."
He nodded to emphasize his point, his finger waving about as though he spoke trivially of the matter. Like it was nothing.
"In the interest of being fair, I shall not move from this spot. Should I do so, consider me a cheat and my fight forfeit. Now come, do your worst."
His palm cupped the pommel of his blade now, fingers drumming upon it. His left hand was empty, loose at his side. They rose.

The two vampyres did rise. They got to their feet as if on invisible strings. Maybe it was the extra few seconds, maybe it was the high they had obviously all indulged in earlier, maybe it was just the fact that they saw a man where they had not seen one before or maybe; just maybe, it was his words; those taunting words. Whatever it was, it installed a rush of testosterone so primal that all their newly enhanced senses were flooded immediately.
They bounded across the grass in great leaps directly at Renquist and they moved as if they were one being. In those few seconds while rushing across the grass their fates were irrevocably entwined. They gave no more thought at all to Lily, she did not exist in their eyes. If she existed at all, it was merely as prize to the one that took Renquist down.
They hit the earth beside him in the same instant; too, one in front and one behind. Surely he could not defend against them both. No one was that fast.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”

Renquist's arm waved wide, a flourish of his wrist this way and then that. His feet did not leave their placement, his body only arched, him leaning back and then rotating forward, leathers and hair whipping out in such a subtle manner as he coiled to follow the lead of his sword arm. Nothing followed that motion but the ever-so-feint glimmer of steel in the moonlight, an intangible flash imperceptible to the human eye. His free arm had emphasized the motion, elegantly, him leaning forward some as the blade came to a halt at his side toward Lily. He turned his body toward her and his left hand stroked across his stomach, the tip of his blade lowering as he bowed, steel tapping the toe of his boot as a maestro beginning his symphony.
But his song was over.
He remained there a moment, his head lowered, sword down, his free hand up as if looking for the adoration of an audience. As the two body's slid apart, then crumbled to ash; he lifted his head to look upon her with wild eyes. He licked his gleaming teeth and then sank his sword into it's scabbard, him then striding from the spot to approach her. It had happened in the thought of a moment, the only tale of his act being the elaboration, the frivolous dance he had added in his humored mood.
"I fear it pales in comparison to your majesty, my pet. Not so grandiose a performance."

Lily's silvered eyes were shining. She was clapping enthusiastically, too and bouncing about on one foot and then the other like an excited child in the middle of a playground. Actually, she probably did think it was a playground.
"Do it again! Do it again!"
Now she was spinning around in a circle her arms thrown wide to either side, her face lifted toward the sky, and her hair swinging around her like a wild pennant.
Of course, he could not do it again. The vampyres were dead. It did not appear to bother her much while she spun there under the moonlight until she could no longer stand. Lily fell into the grass, spread her arms and legs apart, and made sweeping motions as if trying to create a snow angel without the snow.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”

Renquist watched her, as he always did; but his smile was uncharacteristically warm. She was his everything in a manner of speaking. He had many things, but none that he cared for beyond her. It pleased him to make her happy, to see her so joyous.
And when she took to the grass, sprawled out and reveling in the night, he fell upon her. He was above her, hands to either side of her shoulders, a growl in his throat as his eyes commanded hers to look back. There was a stirring within him, an unbridled want for her and he had no intention of keeping it at bay.
His teeth found her throat and here, in the dark, dank night; Renquist gave her his kiss.

Lily's head rocked back to meet him. He descended on her and she was more than willing to give him anything he might wish. No. Willing was not the proper word. Pliant was the word she wanted along with a host of others; obliging, eager, pleased, thrilled, ardent and so on.
She wound her body around him giving sounds more akin to a kitten than some awful walking dead thing. Oh, and there was something else that came rushing up out darkness of her thoughts when he gifted her with his bloodied kiss.
Her nails hit his shoulders and cut marks into his flesh. Her voice, when she could find it, was released among the litany of mewling cries.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”

Renquist drank haughtily, hungrily and then pried his mouth from her flesh, lapping at the spilling blood and mending her flesh. She was his blood and bone, borne of his own power and as such, he could stitch her with his will. He then lay his head upon her chest, staring up at her, long, slender fingers stroking her face.
"Again? To kiss or to kill my sweet? What do you desire?"

Lily watched him avidly when he pulled away from her neck. Her eyes were still shinning like newly minted silver coins. To Lily, Renquist created the world around her with every stroke of his hand. She pulled one of her hands back from his shoulder and began sucking at the tips of each nail.
"Another kiss, Master. Here please."
She turned her hand over and lifted her wrist up to him. Small sparks of pleasure had taken up residence somewhere in the vicinity of her spine. She could not identify the exact place and it was rather maddening. Her eyes slipped closed.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”

He reached out in the dark and clasped her wrist, holding it for a moment... but his lips wanted elsewhere. He leaned down and stole a kiss from her mouth now her eyes were closed, a slow and tender gesture that he felt compelled to place there in this moment. Then he rolled, pulled her onto him and when she came to rest atop his frame, his teeth sank into her wrist quite eagerly.

Lily made a cry that should have carried pain. Except, she did not feel pain. All she felt was his teeth sunk into her skin and then the blood flow. His blood seeping from her body and rushing back into his mouth. She could hear him, too. The dozens of thoughts that were currently resident in his mind. They were disjointed, unconnected, but she was piecing them together.
Her head dropped. Hair splayed out over the length of his chest and side. She was reaching for it without thinking. Her lips were so very dry. Lily's teeth found hollow spot connecting his neck to his shoulder and bit down.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”

The hours rolled by, marked only by writhing bodies. shadows and blood and when all settled, Renquist was sitting. His chest was bare and he sat a short distance from where she lay. His knees were pulled into his chest, his arms wound about his legs, his chin resting upon them.
His eyes were on the town of Wistvale. He was studying, thinking and completely silent in the night.

Lily was sprawled in the grass as still as a corpse, though her eyes were open. The moon and stars occupied the whole of her vision. Lily had spent several later hours, once upon a time, staring up at the sky. Well, it had been a created sky hanging above the theater where she learned to danced as a child.
She used to wait until everyone, even their teacher, had left and then she would sneak back into the building via a custodial door. She danced for hours on the unlit stage. When Lily's legs could hold her up no more, she would lay upon the sanded and polished wood floor to stare up at the dangling stars and dream of being a premiere ballerina.
She no longer dreamed of such things. Nevertheless, the stars were still fascinating. Especially now, when her body was thudding so very pleasantly. Her master was quiet, but the thoughts in his head were making inroads in her mind.
“It's hard for me to stay in the moment. Without the past, where is the guilt? And without the future, where is the dread? And without guilt and dread, who am I?”
