 The Clearing

((GM's or anyone else are, of course, free to jump in at anytime. Using this thread mainly for some training, but you never know what may happen.))

::Needing a break from her exploring of the town proper, Neko decides to see what lies in the woods just past the last rundown houses. Not bothering to find a gate, she hops the stacked stone wall that marks the border and makes a beeline for the trees.

It doesn't take her long to find a game trail and she decides to follow it to see where it leads. By nimbly hopping from root to rock as often as they present themselves, she tries to avoid leaving as many tracks as possible along the path.::

::It's not long before the trail opens up, and a small clearing presents itself. Moonlight shines down thru the opening in the trees and shows a small patch of grass that comes up to her knees and littered with wildflowers. A few rocks of various sizes and an old log can also be seen as she walks quietly into the open.

Enjoying the feeling of peace that welcomes her here, she decides to take a moment to rest. Taking a seat in the center of the clearing, she folds her legs under herself and breathes deeply of the scent of the world around her.

Her head filled with the scent of wildflowers, she removes her weapons and places them reverently before her. First her kunai. Her weapons of choice. Her sword follows, considered a short sword by normal standards, she wields it much like a human would a longsword due to her diminutive stature. While maybe not as unique and deadly as those she has carried in the past, they have seen her thru many dangerous encounters and they were as much a part of her as her hands. It still bothered her that she had to leave her Uncle's gifts behind at Father's home, put the Magick she had used to transport herself here did not allow for her to bring any items of magick with her and she was forced to leave them.::

SIGH

::She supposed she'd have to tell her Uncle, eventually. Although she still had no idea if this really was "her" Uncle or not. She was inclined to believe it was, but there was obviously something going on here that she had yet to figure out.::

::With her weapons laid out ritualisticly before her, she reaches up and removes the mask from about her face. Folding it gently, she places it with her other items in front of her. Looking at it, she thinks about the barrier it represents. Of how many times she wished she could talk. To be able to do that one simple function of communication. Alas it was not something she was capable of. For all she knew, she may never be able to do it. Tilik and the other hatchlings were also not able to speak, so she assumed it must have something to do with being a Hatchling. She remembered trying to talk after her first evolution from cat to her current form. The hope and joy she felt in her new body. The fact that she could do so much more than she had been able to do in her animal form. And yet there was still that barrier. That thing that marked her as different. That seperated her from the other adventurers she had met.

She had always been her toughest critic, and her own shortcomings disappointed her more than anything else. Best not to dwell on this one tho. There was not anything she knew of that could change the situation. Perhaps if she ever evolved again things would change, but here in this strange new world the rules had changed and her own personal and physical growth was not a guaruntee.::

SIGH

::Turning her thoughts away, she moved towards loosening the straps to her armor.::

::She studied each piece of armor as she removes it and places it in the grass around her. Examining each part for wear and tear to see if any needed to be repaired or replaced. Each mark that marred the surface of the leather had a story to go with it. Everything from as dangerous as facing a horde of newly made undead, to as seemingly simple as raiding the stores inside Jenkins' kitchen with Tilik, looking for sweets and trying not to get caught as they hid behind the counter.::

SIGH

::She missed her old friends. Gods only knew if she'd ever make it back to her home again. Or if any of them would want or be able to find her here. But she did have her Uncle, and that was more than enough for her for now.::

::She is kneeling now in just the simple clothes she wears beneath her armor, all her worldly possessions arrayed in a semicircle about her. Breathing deeply of the cool night air, she washes all thoughts and worries from her mind as she closes her eyes and turns her other senses outward to the world around her. The feel of the earth and soft grass, damp with dew beneath her. The taste of the clear, cool air as she inhales. The scent of the wildflowers that grow in this small clearing. And the sounds of the wind whispering thru the leaves of the surrounding trees, the buzzing of insects and the rustling sound of rodents as they move about the underbrush in search of food.

One by one she closes each one off as she turns her forcus inward. The beat of her heart. The gentle rise and fall of her chest as she breathes. Slowly she draws in the energy of all around her. Letting it fill her being as she had been taught, and turning it downward into the earth beneath her, becoming a conduit of sorts. A part of this strange world.

As she releases this energy, she allows her senses to expand once more to the world around her. Opening her eyes, she is surprised to see the shadows cast by the light of the moon rippling out from her like water in a pool. She had not intended to do this, but she was only newly trained to the ways of Magick and now far away from Father, the only teacher she had ever known in the ways of Magick.::

SIGH

::She could almost see Him now, standing tall and imposing in the shadows of the trees before her. How she wished He was here. To hold her and comfort her. To tell her all would be ok, and help her find her way. Would He be angry with her for leaving? For using His Magick without permission to come here on her own? Or would He simply be glad to find her safe? She wasn't sure. And did not care much either way. Despite His gruff exterior Father loved her, she knew, and even were he to be mad, it would not last. Gods she missed him::

::Turning her attention to the small waves of shadow moving thru the grass, she focuses her will in an attempt to calm them.

She can hear Father's words in her mind as the ripples slow, then stop completly...

"You have chosen to make the shadows your home, so you must learn to master them as I have. Focus and Control are the keys to bending the Darkness to your will. Lose either, and you will fail. Renquist has taught you how to strengthen your body. I shall instruct you in how to strengthen your mind. Both require much practice and training in order to master."

::She looks about the now still clearing and is pleased by what she sees. This small clearing offered a good space for her to train in both mind and body. She shall put it to good use.::

::The effort it took to control her magick combined with the late hour had left her feeling tired. She needed to sleep, so she began to slip her armor back on piece by piece. She vowed to return here as often as she could to continue her self training. Piece by piece she felt the weight of the armor as she replaced it, then turned her attention to her weapons. Picking up her sword, she used a srcap of fabric to wipe the dampness from the sheath and placed it across her back. She then did the same with her kunai. The weight of her weapons so familiar now that she hardly even noticed them when they were there. It actually had become strange to NOT have them and the thought made her smile. What a strange creature she had become. From egg to a pet, and from pet to a daughter and niece. A warrior. She wondered silently what would become of her next as she rose from the ground and walked to the edge of the clearing.

Turning to face the field she left, she bowed in respect to her new found training ground before leaving back down the game trail to return to town and then her new room in her Uncle's home to sleep.::

::Neko headed for the edge of town. It had taken most of the day, but her sack was heavy (to her) with "Clearly Abandoned" goods she had found discarded about town. She had done her best not to be seen as she collected these items, as some people were loath to find a stranger sorting threw their trash. Still there had been a few narrow escapes and she had been forced to leave some choice items behind. However, she felt she had enough to at least get her started. Some short lengths of rope that were broken or gone to rot, a bent piece of scrap metal she thought she might be able to dig with, some rusty nails she had pried from some discarded boards, and some torn and moth eaten scraps of fabric that may have once been a tablecloth.

Last time she came this way, she had just bounded over the wall without a thought, but she was too heavily laden to do so this time. So, shifting the pack to try and adjust the weight, she hefted a short plank she had also found under one arm and let the other end drag in the dirt as she made her way to the gate in the wall.::

Hex walked though town, just taking his daily stroll through Wistvale. The place really grew on him, even if it wasn't the greatest or most luxurious town. He liked the smell of the town: the old musky smell of rotting garbage, the flowers that grew in small patches where certain people took care of them, and the scent of the night, which hovered until dawn. He couldn't think about not living here, as now this was home for him. This was where he was living, and he enjoyed it.

As he walked through the town, he spotted a familiar face. He walked over to see the purple cathian carrying a rather stuffed backpack, full of who knows what. She seemed to be struggling, and having the kind heart that he does, he walked over and as she went though the gate, offered his help to her.

"Hey Neko! Need some help?"

He tried to lift up the board for Neko that was dragging under her arm, trying to help unload the burden on her.

"Just lead the way and I can help carry some of these things"

::She smiles at her friend, glad to see him. She sets the pack down in the dirt and wipes the sweat from her brow.

Still holding one end of the board, now much easier to manage with Hex's help, she points at the sack and then to the trees beyond town. Hex can just make out a small path that disappears into the woods. That seems to be her destination.

Looking back to her friend, she cocks a questioning eyebrow.::

As Neko showed her friendly smile to Hex, he smiled back. He loved helping out, cause it just made him feel so good inside. He wore his plastic smile as always, sometimes genuine, as he attempted to pick up the sack she carried.

Whatever she was carrying, it wasn't feathers or down, no. It was rather heavy. He heaved the sack onto his back, and panted after he got it on his shoulders.

"Dang Neko, what do you have in this bag? It's rather... heavy."

He continued to hold up the board as she carried the other half. He nodded as she pointed to the woods, agreeding to follow her when she would lead.

"Hey Neko, can you lead? It'd be easier cause you know, since you know where this is going haha."

::In answer, Neko started walking towards the woods. Her steps much lighter now with the shared burden.

As they neared the woods, hex could tell that the trail she was heading for was rather narrow, used mostly by the animals that frequented the area. The going was a little rough as they entered the trees. There were a few times where Hex had to set the sack down to help Neko move the plank, but in the end they made it to the clearing.

As the trees broke open to reveal the small patch of grass before them, Neko set her end of the plank down and spread her arms wide to take it all in. Turning, she smiled proudly to her friend.::

The light of the early evening sun shines down thru the break in the trees and lights the area before them. The field is mostly clear, but for a few rocks of various sizes and an old dead log laying off to one side. While the grass comes up to Neko's knees, it comes well short of Hex's. Here and there are patches of wildflowers whose scent fills the air. Near the center, the grass is still matted down from her visit the previous night.

As Hex arrived in the clearing in which Neko had led him, he smiled and stretched out his arms. He placed the pack down after he put the plank where Neko wanted, and just plopped down on the grass, taking in the moment. He missed just laying in the soft grass, and when the morning coems, the dew drops are especially refreshing to lay down upon. The grass wasn't very tall, which was also very nice, as he just felt like he was laying on a bed of roses. Without the thorns, of course.

As soon as he finished relaxing (it was onoly moments), he sat up and looked around, seeing that there was a few rocks and a log scattered among the field.

"So what is all this stuff for, Neko? Are you building a shelter outside of Wistvale or what?"

::She shakes her head and spreads her arms again to take in the clearling, then mimes shadowboxing. She looks at Hex to see it he understands.

Thinking she may need to explain more, she goes over to the sack and sticks her head in it, digging around. She comes up with the bent scrap of metal, covered in a flaky coating of rust. She flexes her hand to extend a claw and scratches in the rust, her tongue stuck out the side of her mouth in concentration. Once finished, she turns her work towards Hex, for him to read.::

Neko was doing some sort of martial practice... Rather strange actually. She was trying to make out some sort of message, and Hex was going to guess something along the likes of 'fighting range' or 'martial temple' or something along those lines. However, Hex didn't have to think long as Neko reached in her bag to retrieve a rusty piece of metal. She etched in 'For Practice' in almost child-like hand writing and form (using a number as a substitute for a sound, in this case '4' for 'for').

Hex understood now. She had these materials to build a training area: someplace where they can wield the forms of physical fighting and train their bodies to do things that they would only get to do in the field. It was a place like the Guardian's Grove, where the dryads would train in fighting along side the ents and the satyrs, and Hex's favorite place to be. He could train his magic here, but some major reconstruction was needed. Just like in the Guardian's Grove, there was a source for every element vital to the creatures in the Grove: Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind. Hex can wield four all four of these. He was unique within the Grove, however, as most of the natural beings could only wield two maximum, and Hex could use all four. It was a blessing really, having the ability to use four elements to his advantage, but it was a pain to try and learn how to wield all those forms, each one having a different technique that was taught by a different master.

Hex got lost in a train of thought until he came back to reality. He blinked for a moment, and with a newborn zeal, was able to just spring up from the grassy patch he sat on and get on his two feet.

"I know what we are gonna do: We are going to create a training ground! This is a great idea!"

With a newly found ambition, he opened the sack and let everything out of it, all the scrap metal and the nails and whatnot fall down on the ground below his feet.

"So... what do you want to make first?"
