I can't like the idea of someone hijacking boats outside of Wistvale, Wolf. If it is a mage the purpose is obviously clandestine, else why cloak their machinations with invisibility? We've sailed past this spot a thousand times and it is never happened before. Investigate, of course.

How long had it been since they had come this way? A week? Two perhaps? And how many trading ships had flowed in and out of the area in that time frame? Three or four a day? Kiko glanced back behind her. Yes, that spot would catch many.

And while it appeared to be easy enough to bring the Catalina to a halt, it was still enough time for sabotage if someone on board those ships had a different agenda.

Grayell nodded and nuzzled at her neck for a moment, a slow sigh escaping his lips. He didn't want to deal with such a nuisance, wasn't in the blasted mood for it. But of course, if nothing else was going to ruin a night on the lake with the love of his life, a bloody invisible barrier had to show up and smack his ship about.

He groaned as he let just enough wind in the sails and adjusted it to lazily work the boat toward.... whatever the hell it was that had caused them to come to a halt and alter course so abruptly.

Maybe we'll get lucky. Someone left an invisible wall here and is looking for it frantically....

Kiko scuffed at the side of her face. She had planned on a nice long rest away from recent issues. A midnight sail had been perfect for that, too. But, now she could not relax. Her skin was starting to hum with barely contained energy.

Said energy was a by product of seasons spent with the Garou. Kiko returned to the camp where the Wolf had fought her curse and his several times over the years. The old healer had adopted her and she has spent many a happy hour walking quietly beside the old woman during her endless tasks of caring for her tribe.

Kiko did not do it for the knowledge specifically, though that was generously imparted. No, she had journeyed with her because the woman had given her back something she had long thought lost; a sense of belonging.

Guided the boat back easily enough, he wasn't lost on the open water and hadn't been that disoriented. He climbed up to the bow, eyes peering through the murky ink that was the water, watching the moon rise and fall with the slow tumble of the currents. There had to be something... that or he'd come face first into the same thing they'd collided with earlier.

Either or, he just needed to find it.

Kiko was expecting the smack. She tried counting the time in her head. It had to be here. But, the black water was now as smooth as glass, and nothing had stopped the Catalina from this direction.

Wolf?

Her voice was unhappy, uneasy, and right at the end? It was extremely wary. The energy beneath the surface of her skin was yanking on her nerves like a child would on the middle block in stack of bricks.

Grayell turned back, his eyes dark and almost foreboding in the night, looking every which way, senses tugging him in every direction. On edge, something was not right and she felt it too.

Kiko....

The energy had to snap and it did. There was a crack of sound, not unlike thunder, and the clouds skittered away from the moon like rats leaving a sinking ship. Below, on the black glass of the sea, water erupted from the surface. It shot straight up into the air before, inevitably, it returned to the ocean. A violent splash that could easily capsize a vessel and throw anyone on it overboard.

Grayell reacted with something akin to a fierce awe.

"What the bloody flarb was THAT?"

He was pointing as Kiko might have the answer, as if somehow he was missing something of great importance. But he kept his eyes on the water, desperate for an answer. He knew on thing though.

They weren't going in there after it. Last time they ended up in the damned unknown depths, he almost lost her. Not on his life, not again.

Kiko backed up. The wall of water was falling almost straight down and the waves had multiplied and grown wider. Twin waves of foamy sea were heading straight to either side of the Catalina.

And, that wasn't all. The separation of the waves had revealed a woman almost six feet tall and wearing robes that framed her upper body tightly from throat to hip, from shoulder to wrist, and from waist to ankle. She hovered on a spray of water and in one hand she held ramrod straight staff.

"Oh. Well. Hello."

Her voice wasn't loud, but it did carry to their ears without any need for amplification. The woman flowed directly toward them.

Grayell might have drawn his sword and cut the bitch down, he might have launched himself at her and engaged her head on. But as it stood, the boat was right side up, as were he and his love.

Instead, he folded his arms and lowered his head a little, glowering at what could only be assumed was a water mage. He stood between her and Kiko, as he was always want to do in such situations.

"You have a funny way of fishing lady."

She laughed, tossing her head back and sending waves of golden hair over her shoulders.

"Fishing. How... clever. Yes. I might have a strange way of fishing. But, it does net results. I'm all about results. How about you?"

She had gotten within two or three feet of the Catalina and so had the waves, though both now seemed to be stationary, at least however still water could be. At any rate, she was definitely controlling them.

Grayell sniffed the air and thumbed his nose, a hint of a growl in his voice. His eyes were dark and locked on her, a very visible warning that he was uncomfortable with this situation.

"Oh me? Call me old fashioned, I use a spear. But I'm not fishing tonight and it seems you are. Problem being, this is my woman's boat. I'd rather like it if her and I were not to be your prized catch this evening."

The mage, for that is what she was, lifted higher on her pedestal of water. The waves swelled and then were pulled in on either side toward her body.

"Oh. Now, see this is where we are going to have an issue. I was resting soundly when you just had to sail by. I am awake due to your... journey. And, well, when I wake up? I am very hungry. I'm sure you can understand that, yes?"

The blackish sea water had risen along the length of the staff while she was speaking.

Grayell sneered, a menacing expression. His arms were unfolded now, his sword side away from her, his hands loose, open and ready. There were tells in his stance that none noticed save Kiko; she'd witnessed such stand offs many times prior. But he continued speaking. As much as he had little tolerance for mages, he wasn't stupid enough to outright attack one without true reason.

"I read this story once, about this witch-creature-thing that lived in a lake. You see, she had this upstart kid, nasty piece of work who like to rummage through this drinking hall in the middle of the night and eat all the leftovers. People too.

Well this one bloke, he smacked that bugger around and ripped his damn arm off and the big nasty complained to mommy. And the one bloke, wolf whatsit - well he went and smacked the shit out of her too.

You know why?

Because that's what mean, ornery, trying to relax on their bloody boat sons of bitches do with very little provocation.

Now, I haven't ripped anyone's arm off today but I can assure you, I REALLY don't mind playing catch up.

So.

Just maybe, you can go raid your larder and go back to bed, I can take my boat back to the shore and we all get a goods night's rest, yeah?"

In no way was that a question so much as it was a strongly urged suggestion, just one ounce of agitation from being a demand.

(Ahem. Beo whatsist. I believe. Yes.)

"Oh. No. No. No. No. That will not do at all. I like my meals fresh out of the water. So much sweeter."

The waves came rushing back toward the Catalina, and much faster than they had retreated. Plus, they gained volume quickly. They hit the boat on either side and rocked it straight up into the air. The yacht hit the water with a vicious smack and anything not tied down was tossed wherever the waves and collision had deposited them.

Now her voice did raise. It came from her lips like a gale force wind and her staff pointed toward the Wolf before erupting with a solid gout of water in that same direction.
