Ely's Place « Thread Started on Jun 8, 2012, 10:33pm »
Ely stretched her neck. She folded her fingers together behind the back of her head and tried to sooth the muscle strain from several hours’ worth of reading. She often lost track of time when her mind was occupied. She placed a silk ribbon in the book and put it aside.
The years had been kind to Ely. A chance encounter with an enterprising archer had given her magic new direction. It had been quite profitable for a time, too. Eventually though, even her boundless energy was exhausted from the constant travel her “fireworks” show required. She had returned to Wistvale a few years ago.
Ely remembered Wistvale fondly.
She stood up and glanced around. The place was a ruin, the walls barely held up the roof, the floors were cracked, busted, and covered in tree roots as thick as a man’s leg. Hell, there were trees growing right up through the tiles. She liked the trees. But, that was not why she had bought the place. Her home was stuffed floor to ceiling with books of all descriptions and holding all manner of information.
And, well, if her magic was a little excessive she wasn’t going to make her living room any worse.

Ely repeated the stretch of muscle, and this time she used her whole body. She started by standing with her feet placed the width of her shoulders apart and slowly but surely her spine bent over backward. She found the floor with the tips of her fingers before flinging her feet up over her head. The end of the stretch came when her toes hit the floor on the other side.
Oh. In case you were wondering? Yes. Cathians are very limber.
She went through a few other stretches, too. Common things; mostly, exercises that everyone does after sitting still for an extended period of time. It was a quick pick me up. Plus, it definitely gave relief to her tired mind and eyes.
She brushed dust off her hands, knees, and clothing. She needed a bath, badly. Ely had paid little attention to the amenities when purchasing the property. It was not the smartest thing she had ever done, either. But the moment she spotted the books she had to have them.
She had done nothing much to improve the place, beyond tiding up the books and shelves. The kitchen and wash area was far down on her "to-do" list. She did not have the labor skills to fix them, she could not afford workers to do them for her, and while her magic was wonderfully helpful when it came to destroying trash, it lacked some in the repair department. Not that she would ever admit that to another mage.
No. She would find a way to pull this fading phoenix of knowledge out of the ashes. It was only a matter of time. Her eyes went to the hole in the roof where the fading sunlight poured in. Sunset was closer than she had thought. If she left now she could make it to the hot springs before it was gone.

Ely lead Kiga out of the springs and down the path that would take them to her home. She was slow in deference to the pain in his head and she did not say much either. That last bit was not because of Kiga's headache, at all. She had run smack dab into a whole tangled web of emotions, thoughts, and feelings.
Not to mention the spark of pleasure that came with the memories of his kisses. She was trying not to give credence to that spark, but it was the most damnable thing, sneaking up and smacking her in the back of the head when she was trying to sort out other thoughts.
Even walking as slow as she had, Ely's house was only a half hour away from the Springs. The time she could spend arguing with her thoughts had run out.
"Kiga, over here."
She had slipped away from him and dashed across the street to a ruin of a building.

Kiga has stopped his sniveling and apologized for reacting as he had. His pride was wounded far more than his flesh and well, a series of more bumbled and nervous words inspired by her attentions later - they arrived.
She bolted across the street and he sighed outward, a huge huff of air as he tried to shrug off his awkwardness. He had not felt this way in years now - he'd courted queens and wooed all manner of women.... but all were his work.
That seemed like it was the only decisive difference. He was not being ordered or paid to flatter Ely and he truly wanted to, but something about it felt insincere. Like he'd said such words too many times, that he'd lied far too often for them to hold any true weight.
But she looked at him and he snapped to attention, she spoke to him and he quivered inside and when she touched him... his world imploded in the most brilliant myriad of splendid colours that made him want to yell and jump and run and fly....
Oh. She'd gone inside.
"Ely, wait up!"
He too ran across the street to follow her into her home.

Ely skidded to a halt. She had not done much with the outside of the place and the grass was at least knee high, plus it was dark. She waited for him to join her before pushing the huge wooden door of the building open. It screeched; loudly, and gave what sounded like a sigh before letting go of the jam and swinging inward.
It was just as dark inside as it was out when Ely pushed the door closed.
"Over here."
She took Kiga's hand to show him the way. Yes, that is why you've taken his hand Ely. Of course. Liar. There was some illumination farther in, a fire in a oversized stone hearth. A fire, that when Ely got closer leaped and sputtered and grew larger. Little tendrils of flame separated from the blaze and darted to a dozen places at the same time. The thick candles that were previously unlit burst into life.

Kiga almost stumbled as she took his hand and led him, his eyes wide with bewilderment as the whole place came to life. He slumped into a chair, slowly, still transfixed by what was a magical thing to witness.
He then looked up at her, no recognition in his face at first and still in awe... and then snapped out of that and smiled with a quick chirp. He laughed a little.

Ely's head twisted around and her smile was instantaneous. She knew he would love the trees. The flames from each candle were burning merrily, every shadow dancing on the wall duplicated a dozen times or more.
"Yeah... In Cathia? A lot of homes are in the trees. Now I have trees in my home."
She had stepped away from him to a small cabinet along one of the walls. There were several muffled sounds, things being pushed this way and that until she found what she was looking for. Then her head snapped back up from the darkness surrounding the open door.
"Okay. This might hurt, Kiga. Just for a little bit."

Kiga was watching with what might be considered bird like curiosity, head tilted to the side and his eyes following her shuffling about. He'd found something of a seat, well a clump of roots at the base of the largest tree and was slumped against it.

Ely continued to smile at him while walking closer.
"Just for a little bit. I need to clean it up. It won't take long."
She hadn't been able to see the scrape very well in the dark. She could see it now, though, and the astringent witchhazel would sting. The benefit being it would reduce the swelling.
Ely put the small box of supplies on the floor beside the tree. She looked at Kiga reaching out to touch his shoulder before saying anything.

Kiga looked to her easily enough and then, in the firelight; her eyes shone as though for him alone and once more, he was given pause. This time, he was already familiar with the tree and it presented no immediate danger.
He nodded, closing his eyes and lowering his head to better let he see to it.

Ely swallowed sharply. Her heart jumped somewhere in the vicinity of her throat when Kiga looked at her and her hands twitched.
She was a truly gifted when it came to healing. And that had not always been true. After the incident with the fire in Brindisi and her subsequent capture by the guards. Ely had become an indentured servant more or less. She worked to pay off the revenue lost by the tavern owner due to the fire. Part of that work included time spent under the tutelage of a local physician.
She took a breath and concentrated on the here and now. Kiga had closed his eyes and that helped immensely. She was still trying to reforge the memory of a one eyed Kiga into this new version. She brushed the cloth soaked in witchhazel over his temple.

Strangely enough, Kiga didn't hiss or squirm but only peeked up at her with one eye open, the other not wanting any of the medicine to run into it. He grimaced a little of course, but didn't twitch. He looked at her as she worked, then smiled having noticed something.
"Hm. You hair... it's as brilliant as the fire, you know that?"

Ely had finished applying the medicine to Kiga's forehead. She pulled away from him, settled back on her knees, wiped her fingers clean with a fresh cloth, and cleaned the excess from his skin. She offered him a soft laugh with the compliment. Ely's fingers went up to the hair she had pushed out of the way.
"Where yours is as splendid as winter's first snowfall."
She pulled her hand back quickly and busied herself with other things before the temptation to sit there playing with his hair took over. Ely turned her head away from him to gather up the used cloth and medicine. She had some powered ginger root she could give him for pain, too. She had planned on it. Though, he had made no complaints since entering the house. Ely twisted back around to look at him.

She might have caught him out. It might have been her shoes, as lovely as they are. It could well have been the delicate cloth of her dress, as elegant as it is. It may well have been how the light played on her, even when her head was turned and she was preoccupied that seemed to have drawn his attention. It very well might possibly her... ahem. Her backside, as tempting a thing for a man to look at as it is, that held him transfixed in that moment.
Or, it was very possibly with some certainty her tail that his eyes were fixed upon, following it's gentle sway side to side.
Well that and her backside, he is a lad after all.
He suddenly snapped out of it and looked up with a start, eyes confused as his mind tried to clear itself of other thoughts and inform him of what she'd just asked.

Ely's eyebrows flew upward and disappeared under the bangs of her hair. Apparently, his head was much better. Especially, if he had forgotten about as it seemed he had. She put the ginger root away with the rest of the supplies. Now what was she going to do?
Keep your hands busy Ely. Or something. Right. What needs picking up in here? Everything? Ely groaned inwardly. This had seemed like an excellent idea at the Springs, but now that they were safely away from prying eyes she was having problems. She looked back at Kiga nestled in against the base of the tree.
What problems? There was a beautiful man in her house. In her house. Ely's brain shut down. Which was fine with her she wasn't listening to it anymore anyway. She returned to Kiga's side, sat down, curled her feet up in her lap and rested her head back on the tree. Her voice when she spoke was lower than before.
